Track and Field: Ragin' Cajuns Back At Home To Host Louisiana Classics

Comments

LAFAYETTE The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team will host its first meet in two years when it opens the Louisiana Classics at the Ragin' Cajuns Track and Soccer Complex.

Action for the two-day event begins on Friday with competition in the men's and women's javelin beginning at 3 p.m. followed by the women's 200-meters at 6:30. The final day of action will begin on Saturday with field events at 9 a.m., with running events scheduled for 2 p.m.

Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children aged 12 and under. Current UL students are admitted free with a valid University I.D. Parking for the meet will be in the grass lots along Reinhardt Drive across from the Ragin' Cajuns Track and Soccer Complex. Fans attending should enter through Gate 1 (Bertrand Drive and N. College Rd.).

Live results will be available on RaginCajuns.com.

Louisiana, which last hosted its annual meet in 2013, will be joined in the meet by LSU, Alcorn State, Dillard, Lamar, Loyola (N.O.), McNeese State, New Orleans, Nicholls State (women's team), Xavier (N.O.), William Carey and Wiley College.

"We are really excited to compete at home for the first time in two years, it's always nice to compete in front of the home crowd," head coach Lon Badeaux said. "The meet should be a good test for us with the teams coming in. LSU looks to be bringing their whole team so it will show us a bit where we are at this point. It also looks like the weather could be challenging, which could happen at a conference, regional, or national meet, so it gives us a unique test of how we can compete when the conditions are less than ideal."

Louisiana opened its outdoor season last week at the McNeese State Cowboy Relays where it captured its second consecutive combined team championship. Justin Victor claimed individual titles in the hammer throw and shot put to pace the Ragin' Cajuns with Morgan Cormier (110-meter hurdles) and Matt Rice (1,500-meter run) each earning first-place finishes in their respective events.

Stacy Imagbe (long jump), Claire Hodges (1,500-meters), Courtney Musgrove (3,000-meters) and Jasmin Fusilier (triple jump) each turned in first-place performances on the women's side for the Ragin' Cajuns with Tia Mitchell (triple jump), Jana Jones (shot put) and Alena Hrusoci (400-meter hurdles) each finishing in the top three.

"After opening up with a good meet at McNeese, we will focus mainly opening up our best relay teams as well as building on some of the individual performances from last week."
