Women's Cross Country Captures NCAA Northeast Regional Title

BRONX, N.Y. -- The Providence College women's cross country team captured the 2016 NCAA Northeast Regional Championship at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y. today (Nov. 11). For the women, it was the team's fourth NCAA Northeast Regional title in the last five years (2015 1st, 2014 2nd, 2013 1st, and 2012 1st). The Friars scored 50 points, and placed first of 37 teams, as they had three runners in the top seven and easily defeated second-place Harvard (71 points) over the 6K course. With the victory the Friars earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. on Saturday, Nov. 19. It will mark the team's 27th appearance at the NCAAs in the last 28 years.
