Detroit's Cashner, Oakland's Stroede, UIC's Zaiter and YSU's Parham Secure Outdoor Track and Field Weekly Honors

Indianapolis – Oakland sophomore Bryce Stroede (Horton, Mich.) and UIC senior Rebecca Zaiter (Elmhurst, Ill.) have been named Horizon League Men’s and Women’s Runners of the Week while Detroit senior Colin Cashner (St. Louis, Mo.) and Youngstown State senior Jesse Parham (Hermitage, Pa.) have been named Horizon League Men’s and Women’s Athletes of the Week for the period of April 20-26.

Stroede won men’s runner of the week honors after breaking a school record at the Hillsdale Gina Relays last week. The sophomore took home third place out of 33 competitors in the 10,000m run, finishing in a time of 29:48.27. That mark set a school record and also is the top time in the Horizon League this season.

Zaiter recorded her second victory of the season to pickup women’s runner of the week honors. She finished first out of 72 runners at the Benedictine Twilight race last week in a time of 4:35.98. Her time is the third fastest in the Horizon League this year.

Cashner is honored as the men’s field athlete of the week for the second time this season. The Titan broke an 18-year old event record at the prestigious Penn Relays last week, winning the hammer throw with a toss of 65.84m. The throw is also a school record, the top in the Horizon League this season and is 17th nationally this year.

Parham won the javelin event at the Ashland Alumni Open to record her first women’s field athlete of the week honors this season. She broke the school record in the vent by .23 meters with a toss of 45.42 meters. She finished first out of 18 competitors as her winning toss broke a school record that had stood since May 12, 2001.

Top Runners of the Week:
Louisa Coppola, Detroit (Gr., Warren, Mich.) – Coppola ran the fastest time in the HL this season by 18 seconds with her run of 17:00.35 in the 5,000m event at the Drake Relays.
Kyle Hauser, UIC (So., Palos Heights, Ill.) – Hauser ran a personal best time in the 1,500m run, finishing first out of 66 competitors with a time of 3:54.73
Ben Kendell, Detroit (Fr., Huntington Woods, Mich.) – Kendell finished third out of 22 competitors at the Hillsdale Gina Relays with a time of 14:22.49 in the 5,000m. he broke the school record by more than 10 seconds in his outdoor debut in the event.
Milwaukee Relay – The Sprint Medley Relay team set a school record by nearly a full second with a time of 4:02.27 at the Drake Relays. The 4x400m Relay Team  ran the second fastest time in school history at the meet, finishing in a time of 3:48.00.
Sarah Moen, Oakland (So., Eastpointe, Mich.) – Moen won the 100m hurdles at the Crusader Open with a time of 15.42.
Nate Pozolinski, Milwaukee (So., Kimberly, Wis.) – Pozolinski set a facility record set in 1981 with a time of 13.99 at the Drake Alternative event. The time is second fastest in UWM history.
Hannah Reynard, Valparaiso (Fr., Jackson, Mich.) – Reynard ran the fourth fastest time in school history in the 400m hurdles last week, besting her PR by 1.06 seconds with a time of 1:03.71. She finished almost two full seconds ahead of the field.
Brandon Riley, Valparaiso (Fr., Chicago, Ill.) – Riley ran a season-best 23.17 time at the Crusader Open in the 200m.
Eric Rupe, Youngstown State (Sr., Cortland, Ohio) – Rupe finished second in the steeplechase at the Penn Relays finishing in a time of 9:03.20.

Top Athletes of the Week:
Tyler Beeson, Oakland (Fr., Greenfield, Ind.) – Beeson had a PR toss of 14.20m in the shot put last week at the Crusader Open.
Ryan Booth, Youngstown State (Fr., Mineral Ridge, Ohio) – Booth had a season-long toss of 46.22 in the discus at the Ashland Alumni Open and also had a season-long throw in the shot put of 16.52m.
Alex Chollet, Milwaukee (Sr., Aurora, Ill.) – Chollet had PRs in the shot put and hammer throw at the Drake Alternative Meet. He won the shot put with a throw of 16.44m and alos the hammer throw with a toss of 57.51m.
Sarah Drozdowski, Valparaiso (Sr., Roselle, Ind.) – Drozdowski out threw the field in the hammer throw by 10.08m, winning with a throw of 49.68m. She also took second in the javelin and third in the shot put.
Dan Hinspeter, UIC (Jr., Hinsdale, Ill.) – Hinspeter finished second out of 31 competitors at the Benedictine Twilight with a long jump of 6.91m.
Melissa Kirchoff, Milwaukee (Fr., Franklin, Wis.) – Kirchoff won the 100m hurdles and finished second in the long jump and triple jump at the Drake Alternative meet.
Michelle Laygo, UIC (Fr., Roselle, Ill.) – Laygo finished eighth in the pole vault at the Benedictine Twilight with a height of 3.19m.
Megan Simientowski, Oakland (So., Milford, Mich.) – Simientowski had a PR in the pole vault, leaping a height of 3.35m at the Crusader Open.
Chris Sosnowski, Valparaiso (Jr., Greenfield, Ind.) – Sosnowski won the discus (48.12m) and finished fourth in the hammer throw (49.82m) at the Crusader Open. His discus throw was the third-best in school history and bested the field by 3.36m.
