Vince Anderson on Texas AandM Program Transition into Championship Season - SEC Championships
Published by
Last week we concluded our ‘regular season” with a competition at the LSU Invitational. As a staff, we felt we achieved 4 out of the 5 objectives that we had set for our team. The 400 Hurdles remain a bit of a mystery to me, but the sprint relay, the 200’s and the high hurdles went pleasingly well. Most importantly, our team will enter our conference outdoor championships at full health. As coach, it is my job to have them competitively and technically ready to perform their best.
Exams concluded today, bringing the academic year to an end. Finals demand a different approach to daily training times and weekly training loads. Typically, we have a training session at 11am for all those who can make it, and a second session at 2:30pm for those with morning exams. Between those two offerings we get almost everyone to train, each day. We try to schedule the most necessary elements of training every other day – reverting to a more technical day, followed by a less technical/ more restful day. This rhythm serves us well during the week of finals. Athletes have only so much to give this week, so we try to pick our demands carefully.
Starting tomorrow, we can take a 3-4 day transition into the necessary clear mindedness required for our conference meet, which is May 16-19. More , next week. |
