Coach Vince Anderson has been a college coach for 29 years and he is in his tenth season with Texas A&M and has coached an all-American in every sprint, hurdle and relay event and in the long jump.  He helped former world Decathlon champion Tom Pappas with Coach Anderson's expert events when coach Anderson was at Tennessee.  He also worked with World and Olympic champion Justin Gatlin when he was at Tennessee and in 2001 the Volunteers won the NCAA team title.  From 2008 to 2010 he was named national Assistant of the Year.

Coach Anderson was kind enough to send an update for his athletes prior to the Sun Angel meet. -

This is Vince Anderson, assistant coach at Texas A&M. I am writing to you from Tempe, AZ today, where we are competing at the Sun Angel Meet. We enjoy all our forays into the American desert, as the weather usually affords us a great conditions in which to compete. This, after all, is a business trip, not a touristical junket.

This will be our fourth outdoor meet of the year and that constitutes 'mid-season' officially.

The first three meets have served slighty nuanced versions of the same theme -- basic installation of patterns and relay marks. Now that we enter the middle part of the saeson, we are hoping to stabilize those patterns and marks.

Our training this week focused on hitting a big mark in a 300m or 250m (depending on if one is in G1 or G2) and solidifying relay marks and pairing chemistry. On the women's side at least, we will run two 4x100 squads this weekend -- something we very much like to do when the opportunity presents itself. We are grateful to our hosts at ASU, for allowing us to enter 2 sprint relays. Certainly, we view every meet with the intent, and hope of progressing psychologically and technically. We have this added objective today, which, of course we state to our team: having ALL our athletes have a good day on the same day.

Much to our pleasure, this will be the second outdoor meet for Kamaria Brown. She returned to action last week at Stanford. Today, she will be running the 400 and 4x400 relay. Deon Lendore will also return to competition today after sustaining a groin injury in the 4x400 final at the Texas Relays, 2 weeks ago.

That's it for toady. Thank you and best wishes.

For Coaches and athletes: Wherever you happen to be engagaed in competition this weekend, it is my sincere wish that you and your squad competes with courage and clarity of mission. Have a great meet today, in spite of weather, in spite of any presumed impediment! Competing bravely is a decision and a plan. It is something that one DECIDES. Please remember to remind yourself briefly of the wonder of track & field, each day you compete. You will not hear any sustaining words from any American source, regarding the amazing courage, athletic prowess and tradition of sportsmanship which is a foundational part of track & field, OUR sport of poetically intense movement. For sustenance, we must rely upon each other, and the brilliant accuracy of the historical record, to give us an accurate perspective on the value of USA athletics and athletics world wide.
